Measuring Outcomes, Setting Standards of Care  One of the many ways Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute maintains its leadership status is by our continued participation with national data registries to measure our outcomes. These organizations establish national standards for cardiac care that we use as a goal to set our own quality standards, which we then strive to meet or exceed.

Mercy's commitment to quality has earned widespread recognition, topping several national lists. We participate with the following data registries to measure our outcomes:

Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)  The Mercy & Vascular Heart Institute is a member in good standing with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. STS provides physicians and hospitals with comparative data on types of surgery, complications and medication usage.

American College of Cardiology (ACC) / National Center for Data Registry (NCDR)  The American College of Cardiology is an internationally recognized organization that provides cardiologists with the latest information and education in cardiac care. One of the components of the ACC is the National Center for Data Registry. The NCDR currently accepts data from more than 800 hospitals across the United States.

Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute participates with ACC-NCDR, using the information provided by the NCDR to confirm our patient outcomes. In addition to validating our outcomes, the reports provided by ACC assist Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute physicians in comparing their own procedures with those of other physicians at similar hospitals across the country. This has given our physicians the opportunity to stay at the forefront of all new procedures and trends in interventional cardiology.

Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute has a Data Administration Department that supports our participation in these organizations. Within this department, the staff is able to collect and analyze information on the more than 5,000 patients admitted to Mercy for cardiac care on a yearly basis.
