The Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute is home to two of the region's hybrid cardiac catheterization labs - the most advanced environment for minimally invasive and complex surgical procedures. Located at Mercy General Hospital and Mercy San Juan Medical Center, these hybrid labs combine the best of two worlds, maximizing the high definition imaging capabilities of a cath lab with the advanced surgical equipment of a full cardiac operating room into one flexible space.
How does it work? Hybrid cardiac catheterization labs offer the capability to do diagnostic and surgical intervention in one space, providing a higher level of efficiency and safety for certain high risk procedures. These specialized suites provide an environment for optimal patient outcomes by fostering collaborative treatment planning and options. Procedures performed in these suites include advanced aortic aneurysm repairs, peripheral vascular procedures, pacemaker and defibrillator lead extractions, and some types of cardiac surgery.
